The European Commission’s Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking announced € 665 million in funding opportunities for research and demonstration projects to accelerate the market introduction of fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe. U.S. firms are eligible to join consortia of European Industry Grouping members and research organizations that receive EU funding. The Plurinational State of Bolivia has received funding from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) to finance the San Jose Hydroelectric Project, which mainly consists in: construction of civil works of San Miguelito Reservoir; penstocks; San Jose 1 and San Jose 2 powerhouses; supply and installation of electromechanical equipment. A USTDA grant is funding a feasibility study and pilot project for Jiangsu Communications Services Company, Ltd. to evaluate fuel cell applications within the telecommunications infrastructure in China and achieve a design that is targeted and acceptable to the vast potential of the Chinese market. The fuel cell systems would be used for both backup and baseload or off-grid power, replacing lead acid batteries and diesel fueled combustion generators. The Contractor for the activity is First Element Energy based in Lenexa, Kansas USA.

With approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) secured, the Bull Creek wind project ($240 million estimated cost), is a major opportunity for U.S. exporters. These opportunities can be found in the projects planned 46 wind turbines, associated access roads, power lines and transformer station, and an operations facility.
US African Development Foundation, GE Africa and USAID are partnering to promote innovative solutions that develop, scale-up or extend the use of proven technologies for off-grid energy – reaching communities not served by existing power grids. This USD $1.8 million second round of the Power Africa Off-Grid Energy Challenge will award 18 grants of up $100,000 each to African companies and organizations providing off-grid solutions that deploy renewable resources and power local economic activities. Challenge winners will focus on near-term solutions to the power needs of productive and commercial activities, including agriculture production and processing, off-farm businesses, and commercial enterprises.

West Java, Indonesia 30 MW Cibuni Geothermal Power Project
PT Teknosatria Energi Geothermal, an Indonesian firm that plans to develop a 30 MW power generation facility at the Cibuni geothermal project site, is seeking to contact major turbine manufacturers and suppliers to request expressions of interest (EOI) to supply major plant components for the Cibuni project. Lesotho: Consultant Needed
The Government of Lesotho has received a grant from the African Development Fund to finance the consultancy service for the Design of Regulatory Framework for the Development of Renewable Energy Resources. Bidding documents are expected to be available in March 2014.
Kenya Transmission Line
The Government of Kenya has received a loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency towards the construction of Olkaria- Lessos –Kisumu Transmission Line project and part of the proceeds will be applied towards this tender. Accordingly, the implementing agency, Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. (KETRACO), intends to prequalify contractors for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the transmission lines and substation works. New Funding to Boost International Support for Geothermal Energy
The World Bank announced that a new Clean Technology Fund program will facilitate private sector investment in geothermal test drilling. The new program gives a major boost to the Global Geothermal Development Plan (GGDP), which brings together bilateral and multilateral donors around an international investment plan to scale up geothermal power in the developing world.
