U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank Announces Inaugural SelectUSA Investment Summit in Remarks to IEDC Meeting

First-Of-Its-Kind Event Will Bring Together Investors, Business Leaders and Economic Development Organizations to Promote Direct Investment and Job Creation in the U.S.

WASHINGTON, April 15, 2013 – In a speech today at a meeting of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank announced that the first-ever SelectUSA Investment Summit will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., October 31 – November 1, 2013. This summit will connect businesses and investors from around the world with state and local economic development organizations in an effort to promote the U.S. as the premier destination for investment and create good, American jobs. The SelectUSA program is an integral part of the Obama Administration’s efforts to increase direct investment in the United States, as a means of spurring economic growth and job creation.

In her remarks, Dr. Blank noted that through SelectUSA, U.S. Commercial Service officers abroad are helping foreign businesses learn more about investing in American cities and regions, and that SelectUSA staff are continuing to work at the national level to empower mayors, governors, and economic development leaders who increasingly find themselves competing with a foreign city or country for investment dollars.
