The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce is the nation's largest central source for published government-sponsored scientific, technical, engineering, and related business information.
The NTIS mission supports the Department of Commerce mission to promote the nation's economic growth by providing access to information that stimulates innovation and discovery. NTIS has approximately 3 million information titles in its collection, with approximately one-third currently available electronically. Because of the explosive growth of online information dissemination, NTIS created the National Technical Reports Library (NTRL), an online platform that fills a recognized void in access to a large collection of historical and current government technical reports that exists in many academic, public, government, and corporate libraries. Through NTRL, NTIS now provides a more comprehensive offering that delivers high-quality government technical content in all subject areas directly and seamlessly to the user's desktop. The NTIS customer-base includes scientists, engineers, the business community, librarians, and information specialists in government, academia, and the general public.
