Small Business Counselor Certification

This page is designed for SBA or TPCC-affiliated counselors that are required or encouraged to achieve certification in international trade counseling.

You are free to take the tests without viewing any of the webinars. If you choose this approach and do not get the required number of answers correct, you will have the opportunity to review the webinars before taking the exam again. Please wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. The version you receive on the second try may be somewhat different than the first test.

Take the Introductory Level Exam

Take the Intermediate Level Exam

If you receive a passing score, your information will be confirmed by SBA or Commerce and a certificate will be sent by U.S. mail. Certificates will be mailed quarterly. Only SBA and TPCC affiliated small business counselors will receive a certificate.

For small business counselors affiliated with a Small Business Development Center (SBDC), successful completion of the Intermediate level exam meets the export and trade counselor certification requirement set forth in the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.

For more information about export and trade counselor certification for SBA affiliated small business counselors, please contact your SBDC Lead Center or WBC Program Director.

Burns and Dennis Kwak of the Hawaii Small Business Development Center

They are among the over 300 counselors in SBA’s National SBDC program who have taken and passed the intermediate level certification exam for export and trade counseling since the online training and certification program was created in fall 2011.
