The four sessions will be held consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 7pm. beginning April 10, 2013. As part of the course, you will receive an overview of DC's employment laws as they apply to small businesses, including: Hiring, Firing, and Performance Management; Employee Compensation and Classification; Wage and Hour Laws; Distinction between Employees and Independent Contractors; and Employment Discrimination

The course will be taught by employment law experts with experience dealing with small businesses. It is designed for sole proprietors, members of business partnerships, general managers and owners of LLCs. The sessions will take place at the offices of Crowell & Moring, 1001 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. (One block from Metro Center on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.) OPIC will continue its popular Expanding Horizons series for small businesses in 2014, with four events around the country. These workshops and seminars help educate small businesses about the benefits of expanding into emerging markets, and the tools available from OPIC and other U.S. Government agencies that can support them. Expanding Horizons workshops are day-long events featuring presentations by OPIC, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the U.S. Department of Commerce, including the U.S. Commercial Service and the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), and the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., as well as one-on-one meetings with OPIC representatives. Seminars are half-day events undertaken in cooperation with a local partner organization.
