Lowcountry Small Business--Lender Matchmaker

Description from the SC Department of Commerce:

The purpose of the event is to give small businesses access to financing resources. The morning session will include area lenders talking about what they are looking for, what makes a good quality application, pitfalls, etc. Followed by a Peer to Peer session in which companies that have successfully obtained financing explain how they did it, and the key ingredients behind their success. Lunch will be followed by a matchmaking session, where potential borrowers sign up for meetings with multiple lenders and funding resources to advance their financing options.

Lunch will be provided.

American Supplier Initiative

Research shows that small businesses who are suppliers to large corporations reported revenue growth of more than 250 percent and employment increased by more than 150 percent on average. But small business suppliers face a number of challenges as they seek to break into both federal and commercial supply chains, namely access to markets, access to capital and skills and business capabilities.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has launched the American Supplier Initiative (ASI): a federal government-wide initiative designed to increase government and commercial supply chain opportunities for small firms. As part of the American Supplier Initiative, the SBA is holding a series of supply chain events, in collaboration with federal agencies and private companies, throughout the country. Connect Atlanta is the first of these events.

Small Business Week Awards

Every spring, the U.S. Small Business Administration recognizes small businesses across the country during Small Business Week. This year the Portland District Office will honor Oregon's award winners at a lunch on May 20.

Roughly 97.6% of the employers in Oregon are small business ownersrepresenting more than 335,000 small businesses. Their hard work and dedication deserves our recognition and gratitude, especially on this oneday a year.

Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber will be addressing the attendees and aiding in the presentation of the Small Business Person of the Year award.

Additional small business awards include: Small Business Person of the Year, Small Business Exporter of the Year, 8(a) Graduate of the Year, Family-Owned Business of the Year, Directors Impact Award, Directors Rising Star Award, and Directors Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.

Theevent also recognizes leading SBA Lenders who provide the capital small businesses need to grow and succeed. Here in the Portland District, weve had back to back record years of lending following the Recession. In fiscal year 2012, these lenders delivered $428.7 million in supported loans, eclipsing the previous record year of $391.7 million in supported loans. The lender awardees are representative of the more than 60 qualified lenders in Oregon.
