The Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) program provides free informational assistance in all the areas of intellectual property as well as access to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and other intellectual property websites, access to PubWest (a U.S. PTO examiner-based search system), access to computer based training, and public programs and instructional classes in searching patents and trademarks. The PTRC program administers a nationwide network of 80 public, state and academic libraries designated as Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries authorized to disseminate patent and trademark information and support diverse intellectual property needs of the public. PTRCs located within their larger institutions of state, local, or educational libraries are uniquely situated to provide not only starting assistance in the area of innovation for companies and innovators but also to continue that information assistance in the start-up and growth cycle of the company. PTRCs are often located in business departments and work closely with their local Small Business Development Center. There are 82 PTRC libraries in 45 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
