Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Centers provide services to assist eligible minority business enterprise (MBE) clients to achieve higher levels of growth and competitiveness. Over the past 40 years, MBDA has been charged with the growth and expansion of MBEs based in the United States. In FY 2011, MBDA assisted MBEs in obtaining 4 billion dollars in contracts and financing and helped create over 5,700 new jobs.
Businesses owned or controlled by the following persons or groups of persons are eligible to obtain services from a center: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, Native Americans (including Alaska Natives, Alaska Native Corporations and Tribal entities), Asian Indian Americans and Hasidic Jewish Americans.
The MBDA Business Centers provide services including the development of contract and finance opportunities; direct matching of opportunities with qualified/vetted MBEs; assisting MBEs in accessing global market opportunities and financing; identification and securing of alternative sources of capital for MBEs; promotion of the advantages of achieving size and scale; educating MBEs on the benefits of strategic growth alternatives (i.e. mergers, acquisitions and/or joint ventures); and provision of service referrals to MBEs of all sizes.
While each center serves all MBEs affiliated with the aforementioned ethnic groups, it specifically targets clients with annual revenues of over $1,000,000 or participants in a high-growth industry (e.g., green technology, clean energy, health care, infrastructure and broadband technology, etc.).
